Disney's Value Chain Analysis

From chapter 3 in the book the value chain analysis is a strategic analysis of an organization that uses value-creating activities which is useful to understand the building blocks for a company's competitive advantage.


There are 5 primary activities:

  1. Inbound Logistics --> Focuses on distribution efficiency, handling and storing products, maximize warehouse layout to improve the efficiency of operations when receiving and delivering products.

  2. Operations --> Focuses on the making and manufacturing of the products. Includes assembly, packaging, testing and printing.

  3. Outbound Logistics --> Focuses on collecting, storing and distributing the products and services to customers.

  4. Marketing and Sales --> Focuses on attracting customers to purchase the products or services. This includes advertising, promotions and customer reward programs.

  5. Service --> Focuses on providing services to customers to enhance value, this might include installation, repairing, training and product adjustments.


We will be focusing our attention to Disney's Marketing activities; these include providing customer benefits such as membership programs with discounts and lifetime memberships to access theme parks. Disney also markets its new movies and merchandise through advertising via streaming services as well as YouTube.
